Carolyn Elizabeth Gragg lived most of her youth in Brunswick, Georgia. After she graduated from Glynn Academy in that city, she attended Mars Hill College in North Carolina and Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Her graduate work included the study of organ at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
Carolyn taught school in Rome, GA, her hometown Brunswick, GA, Louisville, KY, and Florence, SC.
In 1958, she married Charles A. Warford of Ballard County, KY. Together they served churches in Kentucky, Georgia, Washington, DC, and South Carolina – she as teacher and musician, and he as pastor.
In 1960-61 the Warford’s were students in Jerusalem, Isreal, for nine months. Following that experience, they sailed to Italy, purchased a small car and camping equipment, and for three months “tented” their way across Europe and England.
In 1986, Mr. And Mrs. Warford were appointed missionaries to Germany by the International Mission Board of Richmond, Virginia. After several years in North Germany, they moved to Berlin to work with the International Baptist Church of that city. They lived in Berlin from 1991 until their retirement in 1999.
Mrs. Warford especially enjoyed working with the German young people and the many internationals who attended the church during those years. She was also one of the first Americans to chip a piece out of the Berlin Wall after it fell in 1989.
Warford’s retired near their older son and his family in Nashville, Tennessee.
