Weldon Terry Sanderson, age 93, passed away on November 15, 2024. He was born on October 28, 1931 in Shaw, Kentucky to Emmit Luther Sanderson and Nora Terry (Tankersley) Sanderson. He was the eighth of nine children and the second son. Reports are that his seven sisters spoiled him greatly; he is survived by his one younger sister, Gloria Don Cannon who maintained frequent communication with him.
He married the true love of his life Dorothy Sue Terry on June 16, 1951. During 71 years of marriage they lived in Indianapolis, Indiana; Marion and Granite City, Illinois; and Sikeston, Missouri. He lived since 1988 in the home he grew up in near Lowes, Kentucky; its foundation was poured on the day he was born.
In November 1951 he was inducted into the U.S. Army serving in the Signal Corps in the Korean War; he was discharged with the rank of Corporal in June 1953. He became an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in 1958 working on a wide variety of home and large construction projects until 1996. But his roots and passion for the land were deep and he most enjoyed being a grain and cattle farmer in Graves and Carlisle counties Kentucky. But he was most proud of his family.
He is survived by his sons Wayne (Karen Sue), Erich, Bobby (David), daughter Susan (JR), six grandchildren: Justin, Zach (Jayne), Tyler (Emma), Ana (Brenden), Katheryn, and Jonathan and four great granddaughters Delia Sue Sanderson, Caroline Rayne Sanderson, Sofia Mae Soyster, and Ayla Rae Soyster. He enjoyed many wonderful family vacations, visiting all 50 states.
He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Sue and infant daughter Diana. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and Veterans for Foreign Wars Post 5409. WT will be remembered and greatly missed as a friend and good neighbor to many, always happy to use his many varied skills to help others.
To celebrate his life, visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Cunningham, Kentucky.
