Wava M. Grandon, 92, of Paducah, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024, at Charter Senior Living in Paducah, KY. She was born on March 4, 1932, in McCracken County, KY, to Charles C. and Lettie Pauline Bagwell Huggins.
She was a proud graduate of Heath High School, and her passion for learning led her to Murray State University, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education, followed by a Master's Degree that further solidified her commitment to teaching. Wava's career as a beloved Science Teacher at Heath Middle School spanned several decades, during which she inspired countless students to discover the wonders of the natural world.
Wava was an active member of the Milburn Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where her faith and fellowship were cornerstones of her life. Her service to the church was matched by her dedication to the broader community, particularly through her volunteer work at the Community Kitchen. Wava's love for the written word was evident in her support of the Paducah Public Library. She was an avid reader, and her intellectual curiosity was matched by her zest for life and the great outdoors. Wava found peace and pleasure near the water, whether she was casting a line in or exploring the depths of the waters through scuba diving.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Denny) Alvey of West Paducah, KY and Lana Grandon (Greg Fuchs) of Stamping Ground, KY; a sister, Gayle Ingram of Franklin, TN; six grandchildren, Allyson (Kent) Jones of Alvaton, KY, Christopher Fuchs of Elizabethtown, KY, Kaylynn (Aaron) Smith of Paducah, KY, Michael Fuchs of Stamping Ground, KY, Kristen Fuchs of Stamping Ground, KY and Carola Erixon-Gyllenmyr of Stockholm, Sweden along with six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jerry Edward Grandon.
Memorial services will be on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Milner & Orr Funeral Home in Paducah, with Rev. Larry Buchannan and Rev. Gene Gough officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
