Wanda Purcell, aged 77, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28, 2025. Born on September 12, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, Wanda lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and a love for her community.
Together with her beloved husband, she successfully ran Purcell's Body Shop, becoming a respected figure in the local business landscape. Her entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by her commitment to faith, exemplified through her active involvement and joyous singing with the "Celebration of Praise" group at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
Wanda's passion for nature and animals was evident to all who knew her. She found solace and joy in the time spent tending to her vibrant flower gardens and caring for her cherished dogs, which brought a sense of serenity to her and those she welcomed into her nurturing, well-loved home.
Her unwavering optimism and warm heart will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched. Wanda's legacy of love, service, and community will resonate for years to come.
Mrs. Purcell is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Edward Purcell; her sons, Cary Purcell (Belinda) of Alabama, and David Purcell (Rhonda) of Illinois; her sister, Sherry LaGore of Paducah, Kentucky; her grandchildren, Eliza Purcell, Hadley Purcell, Adin Purcell, Taylor Purcell, and Austin Purcell.
Mrs. Purcell was preceded in death by her parents, Melvie Gilbert and Lucille LaGore Gilbert; her sister, Brenda Thompson; and her brothers, Rufus Gilbert and Mark Gilbert.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM. Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Pastor Gary Lambert and Fr. Brad Whistle officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 31, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
