Shirley Ann McMurtry, a beacon of unwavering love and faith, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, in Calvert City, Kentucky, enveloped by the love of her family. Born on September 27, 1937, in Prestonburg, Kentucky, Shirley grew up to be a woman of immense kindness and boundless generosity, traits that she carried throughout her 87 years.
A treasured member of the community, Shirley dedicated 33 years of her life to Dr. Charles Epstein's Chiropractic Office, where she retired from. Her unwavering commitment to her work was only surpassed by her devotion to her faith as a member of the Lone Valley Christian Assembly. Shirley's love for the Lord was an integral part of her being and she was a prayer warrior who inspired many with her steadfastness and grace.
Shirley was a cherished wife to her husband of 72 years, Thomas N. McMurtry. Their journey together was a testament to enduring love and partnership. She was also a loving mother to her children Brenda Ann (Stan) Redick of Suwanne, Linda Gail (Mike) of Benton, and Tom (Lori) McMurtry of Paducah. The legacy of her nurturing spirit lives on through her ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jerry McMurtry, her parents, Benjamin Franklin Stamper and Sarah Ann Prater Stamper, as well as her six sisters and four brothers.
Those who knew Shirley will remember her for her remarkable culinary skills, her vibrant passion for playing Bingo, and the sheer joy she found in taking care of her family and friends. She embodied the essence of a loving and faith-filled life, spreading kindness wherever she went.
Shirley's life was a true embodiment of love in action, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her light and legacy will shine on in the hearts of her loved ones forever.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Jim Wright officiating.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
