Scott Awbery, age 65, of Symsonia, Kentucky, passed away on September 29, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born on May 18, 1961, in Brown County, Ohio, and lived a life marked by kindness, faith, courage, and devoted service to others.
Scott was known by many, and he carried himself with a steady spirit and a generous heart. He was a man who loved deeply, served faithfully, and made a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was centered on family, faith, and service, and those values guided him in every role he held throughout his years.
At the time of his passing, Scott was serving as Deputy Coroner for Graves County, Kentucky. He dedicated many years of service to his community through a career in public safety and emergency response. He retired from the Mayfield City Fire Department, where he served with distinction as Assistant Chief and Chaplain. He also served as a Paramedic for Graves County Ambulance Service and continued his ministry as Chaplain, offering comfort, strength, and prayer to those in need. Scott was an active and faithful member of Chief Cornerstone Baptist Church, where his presence and devotion were deeply appreciated.
Scott found great joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He enjoyed beekeeping, motorcycles, and spending time working in his garage. He took pride in staying busy and in caring for the things he loved. Above all, his greatest joy was time spent with his precious grandchildren, who brought him immense happiness and pride. His love for his family was evident in all he did, and he treasured every moment shared with them.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Katrina Cruse Awbery; his daughter, Ashley Watkins, and her husband, Adam, of Ledbetter, Kentucky; his son, Brandon Scott Awbery, and his wife, Jessica, of Paducah, Kentucky; and his beloved grandchildren, Nevaeh Watkins, Michael Watkins, and Aaron Watkins. He is also survived by his sister, Cheyrl Jordoons of California; his brothers, Bruce Awbery of Symsonia, Kentucky, and David Awbery of California; his nephew, Dustin Awbery of Paducah, Kentucky; and all of his friends from the fire department, police department, EMS, and church friends whom he considered family.
Scott will be remembered as a kind, faith-filled, and courageous man whose life reflected service, compassion, and unwavering devotion to others. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched through his work, his ministry, and his love for his family and community. Those who knew him will remember his warm spirit, his steadfast faith, and the quiet strength with which he met each day.
His family and friends will forever cherish the memories they shared with him and the example he set through a life well lived. Scott’s presence will be deeply missed, but his influence and the love he gave so freely will remain in the hearts of many.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the Chief Cornerstone Baptist Church from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
