Roy B "Beautiful" Smith, aged 85, a respected chief engineer and dear community member, passed away peacefully at home in his much loved community of Boaz, Kentucky, on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Roy B dedicated 35 years to Crounse Corporation, making significant contributions as a chief engineer, and upon retirement, greeted patrons at Walmart for over a decade, sharing his friendliness with all. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church for over 23 years and had a great appreciation of his church family.
Roy B found great joy hosting bluebirds and being a Purple Martin landlord, listening to their chatter and talking to them as he worked around his yard. He had a lifelong passion for crappie fishing and frequently joined his old buddy Bradford in pre-dawn trips to Blood River. He enjoyed working on oil paint-by-numbers depicting nature and christian scenes, mowing his property, riding around on his tractor, and tinkering in his garage.
His absence will be deeply felt but his joy for life and love for his community will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
Roy B is survived by a son, Roy Vernon (Karen) Smith of Paducah; four step-grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Julie McElwayne; a step-son, Marvin Lynn Reynolds; a sister, Estelee Christian; two brothers, Arvel and Ollie Smith; and his parents, Vernon “Vernie” William and Annie Cope Smith..
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Pastor Blake Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Paducah, Kentucky.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until the service hour of 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project www.woundedwarriorproject.org and Shriners Hospitals for Children www.shrinerschildrens.org and by setting up housing for Purple Martins and bluebirds in his memory.
