Robert Danby was a good man. He worked hard at Air Products as a chemical operator for 32 years, and provided well for his family. He was a devoted husband and father, and adored his children, Robert “Bo” and Matthew “Matt.”
Robert Maurice Danby was born in Mounds, Illinois on November 5, 1938 to Lorena and Robert K. Danby. When Robert was seventeen, his family, parents, and siblings (Bonnie, Sharon, and Eddie) moved to Carbondale, Illinois. His father had begun working at the U.S. Post Office and, at this time, Robert entered college at Southern Illinois University where he was a member of the golf team. He was a good all-around athlete but loved golf and played all of his life. He was also a very good swimmer.
A few years later he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. In 1966, he married Paula Stone in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church on Herrin, Illinois. After his children were born, he was very involved in their activities, such as coaching Little League baseball, golfing, hunting, fishing, and swimming.
Robert later became interested in woodworking. He carved beautiful wild birds, and he worked passionately to keep improving until he reached a level of excellence. For several years, he entered the International Wild Fowl Carving Competition and Exhibition, held in Ocean City, Maryland and came back with many ribbons. To top this off, when he retired from Air Products he took painting classes at the Paducah School of Art. He truly was a man of many talents.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Paula Danby of Paducah; two sons, Robert (Marilyn) Danby of Kevil, and Matthew Danby of Kevil; two grandchildren, Troy Pressley and Leah Danby; a sister, Sharon (Mike) Williams of Carbondale, Illinois; a brother, Eddie (Linda) Danby of Ashville, North Carolina; he also leaves behind several neices and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie (Jim) Eddings of New Mexico; and his parents.
