Richard M. Rhea, known affectionately as Richie to his family and friends, passed away on April 10, 2025, at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center. Born on March 8, 1972, Richie lived a fulfilling life marked by his love for the river as a Towboat captain for Hines Furlong. He was not only known for his expertise on the waters but also as a mentor and a steadfast figure at the helm.
Richie was a steadfast parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. His zest for life was evident in his love for trivia, and he could always be counted on for a lively debate. His role as “Poppy” and “Daddy” was cherished by his children, a testament to his adoration for his family. An outdoorsman at heart, Richie took pleasure in camping, immersing himself in books, and was a life-long learner with a passion for Star Wars and Viking-Norse history. His legacy as a loyal family man and a devoted father will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him.
Richie is survived by his wife of 33 years, Shannon Rhea; his son, Michael Lynn Wring - Rhea of Paducah; his daughter, Andriah Woodford of Paducah; his mother, Juanita Hall Rhea of Paducah; his father, Richard Rhea, Sr. (Rebecca) of Paducah; one brother, Charles David Rhea (Michelle) of Arlington; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and JoAnn Wring of Bardwell; mother-in-law, Marsha Burgess of Benton; sisters-in-law, Tera Guill (William) of Delaware and Jennifer Palmer - Griggs (Mike) of Eddyville; brothers-in-law, George Wring of Paducah and Clifton Griggs (Beth) of Eddyville; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved niece, Olivia Mae Pickett, and his grandparents, Charles and June Hall.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Bishop Stephen Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
