Raymond Thomas “Tom” Thetford, Sr.
Tom Thetford, age 85, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at his home in Paducah, Kentucky.
Tom was born on October 5, 1938 in Water Valley, Mississippi to the late Curmie and Julia Thetford. He was a third-generation railroad worker for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, proudly carrying on the family legacy, and later worked for P&L Railroad, a vocation he genuinely enjoyed. He met and married the love of his life, Jean, in Paducah. Tom and Jean’s commitment to faith was evident in their active involvement with Community Life Christian Church, where their presence was a constant source of encouragement. His passion for golf was second to none. He would often be found at Paxton Park Golf Course where he loved not only playing the game but also volunteering his time and skills to the community. His talents extended into woodworking, a craft that brought him joy that he shared with many others as he bestowed upon them gifts of wooden bowls, boxes, lap tables and many other crafts he skillfully created.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Curmie and Julia; his loving wife, Jean; and one beloved brother, John.
Tom is survived by three children, Thomas Jr. (Jennifer), Kaye, and Tony (Susie); one step-son, Greg; four grandchildren, Zachariah, Laura, Kaytland, and Caitlin; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Ruth; and two brothers, Walter (Lynda) and Sam; and several nieces and nephews.
Tom’s desire for no services will be honored by the family. He would want all of you to know that he is home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, and he looks forward to meeting everyone there.
