Naomi Bement Allen, age 86, passed from this life on March 2, 2024. She dedicated her life to her husband Charles Allen, with whom she was married for 61 years. Together they raised six children: Paula Jackson of Cunningham, Kentucky, Charlie (Mary) Allen of Pottsville, Kentucky, Berthel (Debbie) Allen of Vevay, Indiana, Angela (Ricky) Gourley of Cunningham, Kentucky, Velda (Paul) Rikel of Paducah, Kentucky, and Karen (Rodney) Cude of Smithland, Kentucky. They were blessed with 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, and she was affectionately known as Nana.
She loved her family dearly and conveyed that love through diligent service and attentive care. She especially cherished the younger children, and, even in her old age, held no reserves in playing with them. She spoiled them with strawberries still warm from the sun, straight from the freezer, or in her homemade jelly and desserts. They loved to make her bouquets of various wildflowers from the farm, and especially the March flowers growing on the hill.
Naomi lived a life of hard work, devoting herself fully to her home and family, growing an impressive garden, and laboring alongside her husband on the family farm. She cared deeply for her community and always had an open door and an empty chair ready for any visitor. She loved good conversation and good, strong coffee, and was always ready to take a walk to the railroad bridge or sit a while on the old swing. Nobody could make fried chicken or pancakes like hers, and her burgers were so good, they earned the name “Nana burgers.” She had no taste for fuss or frill, but lived a simple, wonderful life filled to the brim with love, family, and home, the place she loved best. She had a testimony of faith in Jesus and read her Bible every day, longing for the day she would join her beloved husband in Heaven. Surely, if they could speak to us today, their words would be, as always, “Come see us.”
Naomi was also preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Georgia Bement, brothers Hildrey, Howard, Raymond, and Chester, and sisters Juanita, Wanda, and Shirley. She is survived by one sister, Eva Bohannan of Hickory, Kentucky.
The pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brian Jackson, David Allen, Brad Jackson, Andrew Cude, Tim Cude, and McKinley Rikel.
