Monzell Thurston, born on November 6, 1944, in West Paducah, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in Paducah on February 10, 2025. A beloved member of the community, Monzell retired after many years of dedicated service as a cafeteria worker in McCracken County schools, nurturing countless children with care and compassion.
A faithful member of the New Concord Baptist Church, Monzell's commitment to her faith was evident in her tireless service and the love she expressed to her church family. She found joy in the simplicity of life, cherishing the beauty of nature in her garden, where she would spend hours tending to her flowers, a testament to her nurturing spirit.
An avid hunter, Monzell embraced the great outdoors. Above all, her heart belonged to her family, whom she adored with unwavering dedication. Monzell's legacy of love, hard work, and kindness will be treasured forever by all who were blessed to know her.
Monzell is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Terry Thurston of Melber, Kentucky; a daughter, Tracy (Tim) English of Melber; four sons, Justin Thurston of Melber, Bobby Stokes of New Mexico, Michael Thurston of California, and Brent Thurston of Symsonia, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Seth (Hannah) English, Sierra English, and Evan Stokes; two great-grandchildren, Gunner Stokes and Emersyn Stokes; three sisters, Louise McIllwain, Phyllis Joyner, and Greer Klesk; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mediza Landers; her parents, Henry and Mary Chambers; a sister, Lula Buford, and three brothers.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Cruse and Bro. Jerry Rollins officiating. Burial will follow at New Concord Cemetery in Melber, Kentucky.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home.
