Mary Elizabeth Burgess, a cherished soul known for her quiet kindness and loving nature, passed away at the age of 76 on January 28, 2025, at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center. She was born on July 6, 1948, in Clinton, Kentucky, to the late Turner and Clara Burgess.
Mary dedicated many years of work to the Garan Clothing Factory, from which she eventually retired. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she formed lasting friendships. Her love for gardening provided joy and beauty to all who witnessed her radiant flowers. She also found excitement in the occasional visits to the casino. Mary, a gentle and quiet soul, was cherished for her soft-spoken manner and kind heart.
Mary is survived by her son, Chadd (Jada) Burgess, of Arlington, Kentucky; her long-time significant other, David Faire, of Sikeston, Missouri; a sister, Ruby Carter, of Bardwell; her brothers, Michael Burgess, of Arlington, Kentucky and James Lee Burgess, of Cunningham; five grandchildren, Hayli Burgess, Holly Burgess, Stephanie (Zack) Terry, Tisha Burgess (Patrick Mitchell), and Larrah Burgess; nine great-grandchildren, Alaya Yarbro, Aja Mitchell, Patrick Mitchell, Landree Mitchell, Paxon Mitchell, Paylnn Mitchell, Norah Terry, Blaine Terry, and Scotlyn Burgess-Morris.
She was preceded in death by her two sons, Larry Wayne Burgess and Troy Don Burgess; two brothers, Bobby Burgess and Gene Burgess; and her parents.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Arlington, with Bro. Rick Yarbrough officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Arlington.
