Mary Buchanan, age 86, of Lone Oak passed away at 1:20 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2024 at her home. Mary was born on May 2, 1938 to the late George W. Harper and Addie Goodwin Harper. Mary was a long time member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church and a 1956 graduate of Lone Oak High School. She served 25 years as Nursery coordinator for Lone Oak First Baptist Church as well as Sunday School teacher for the pre-school department. Mary served as secretary for the Ideal Reel Company and Ideal Steel Erectors Inc. Mary was typist for the 100th Division Headquarters for the AG Section. Mary held many offices in the Lone Oak Woman’s Club. She retired as a teacher for the Lone Oak Nursery School.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Ned Buchanan; one daughter, Joy (Jeff) Greenfield of Hebron, Kentucky; one son, Jay (Jennifer) Buchanan of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania; one sister, Joyce Scobel, of Cleveland, Georgia; three grandchildren, Alex Greenfield, Megan Greenfield and Matt Villone; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death was her parents; five sisters, Eva Bean, Adlee Henderson, Dean Orndoff, Virginia Boyd and infant sister; six brothers, Ray Harper, Hoyt Harper, George Harper, Jr, Robert Harper, Dale Harper and Herman Harper.
Services will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Monday, July 29, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until service time of 2:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home.
