Mable Maureen “Mickey” Black Langstaff of Nashville, TN passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the age of 98. She was born in Greensboro, NC where she grew up in a loving home with her Mom, Dad and two big brothers. Her Dad was with the phone company and they lived in many towns in North Carolina and South Carolina.

She attended the University of South Carolina and was a member of their 1944 Doubles Champion Badminton team. While at University of South Caroline she was also a Drum Majorette, a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and was chosen 1947 May Queen. While attending University of South Carolina she met and married George Q. Langstaff, Jr. They raised three daughters in Nashville, TN. Mickey was always running the roads supporting their daughters’ sports, academic and musical events.

She was an active member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Nashville. Her life was full of Volunteer work at local hospitals, St. Luke’s Thrift Shop, PTA officer, Girl Scout Troop leader and Assisted Living volunteer playing piano during their mealtimes. She was an avid tennis player thru her years finally putting down her racket when she turned 80.

Mickey was blessed with the ability to play piano by ear. If she had heard a song she could play the song. MANY people have been blessed to hear her tickle the ivories. Mickey and George were co-founders of The Sponsors Scholarship Program providing scholarship opportunities for many deserving students in Nashville and surrounding communities. That group is now “The Sponsors Scholarship Fund” connected with the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Abner Black and Mable Irene Black, her 2 brothers, Kenneth Black and John Black, Jr. and her beloved husband of 75 years, George Q. Langstaff, Jr.

She is survived by daughters: Trish Poole (late husband Charles), Lynne Frederick and husband Steve Frederick and Kathy Stockman (late husband George), six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Our family is forever grateful for the wonderful staff at The Rutherford Assisted Living in Murfreesboro, TN, our private caregivers, caregivers from HoneyHill HomeCare, and the representatives of Aveanna Hospice. They all bonded with Mom to give her true love and compassion thru her journey.

Mickey Langstaff will be buried in Paducah, KY on Monday, October 28, 2024. Visitation at Milner Orr Funeral Home in Paducah will begin at Noon with burial following at Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah, KY.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service at St. George’s Episcopal Church (4715 Harding Place Nashville, TN), Saturday, November 9, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the Celebration of Life to begin at 11:30 a.m.
