Joyce Marie Shumaker Croft, a beacon of warmth and wisdom, passed away at the age of 86 on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Born on July 12, 1938, to the late, Charles and Agnes Mae Walker Shumaker in Paducah, Kentucky, Joyce dedicated her life to nurturing the minds and hearts of those around her.
A retired teacher and school psychologist, she left an indelible mark on her community, shaping countless lives through her unwavering commitment to education and her active involvement at Ohio Valley Baptist Church. Joyce's passion for life was evident in her love for traveling, camping, and sewing. Her gardens were a testament to her patience and care, while her culinary skills and love for reading enriched her family's life.
Joyce's legacy is one of love, learning, and the joy of discovery. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Joyce is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Meyer (Jerry) of Lexington, Kentucky; a son, David Croft (Kathy) of Prospect, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Alex Croft (Cullen) of Louisville, Andrew Croft of Louisville, Clara Meyer of Lexington and Catherine Meyer of Lexington; two great-grandchildren, Hathaway James Croft and Pence Alex Croft.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James ‘Jim’ Croft; a sister, Linda Sanderson and her parents.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Ledbetter, Kentucky
There will be no visitation.
