John Wayne Wurtz, 75, died at his home in the St. John Community of McCracken County on December 10, 2024, after a long bout with cancer.
John was born on October 11,1949 in Paducah, and lived his entire life in Paducah and McCracken County, with the exception of 2 years attending college in Bowling Green, KY, where he graduated from Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
John was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou, his parents, William and Clara LaVera Kaufman Wurtz, and brothers-in-law James Champion and Richard Usry. He is survived by his two children, Jennifer Wurtz of Bowling Green, Ky, and William Wurtz (Kasey) of Paducah, and two grandsons, Carter Holmes and Davis Fish.
He is also survived by five siblings, Martha Kallaher (Jim), Geraldine Durbin (Lawrence), and James Wurtz, all of Paducah and McCracken County, Betty Usry of Midlothian, Virginia, and Sandra Durbin (David) of Brentwood, TN, and numerous nieces and nephews.
John worked for many years as a produce broker in Paducah, initially with Johnston Brokerage Company, and later with McCartney Produce LLC, where he ran his own brokerage business, Wurtz Sales.
Prayers will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, beginning at 5:00 pm at Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home, with visitation from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral mass officiated by the Rev. Bruce Fogel will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, starting at 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.
