John Brown, 83, of College Station, TX passed away at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at his residence in College Station, TX surrounded by his family.

John was a veteran of the United States Army, having served at Fort Hood, TX and in Germany with the 4th Armored Division. He was proud of his service to his country and loved sharing his army stories with family and friends.  His career pathway was in law enforcement. He served as a police officer in Chicago and Bradley, Illinois for several years, as well as Assistant Director of Security at Doral Country Club in Miami, Florida. John then moved his family to Texas where he owned and operated Brown Security and Protection Service until retirement.

John accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 43. He was a member of College Station Baptist Church where he served on various committees for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty Ann Logsdon Brown; a son, Brett(Megan) Brown of College Station, TX; four grandchildren, Ashton C. Brown, Giovanni L. Brown, Ryleigh G. Brown and Katherine D. Brown, all of College Station, TX, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Florence Thomas Brown; sons Dale R. Brown and Jon T. Brown; three brothers and three sisters, and his mother-in-law, Dora Logsdon, of which he lovingly nicknamed “Ruby.”

John was a loving, but tough father to Brett. It was basically “his way or the highway” with little room for discussion. He always encouraged Brett to love his family, choose his friends wisely and to trust in the Lord. They shared a mutual passion for the game of basketball, collecting sports memorabilia, watching and collecting movies and music.   No doubt, John’s favorite pastime was attending all of Brett’s basketball games and critiquing his every play ~ frequently loud enough for all to hear.

John (Papa) shared a special bond with grandson, Ashton. He was the “apple of his eye.” They spent countless hours visiting libraries, book stores, and watching the history channel. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with Ashton: He was present for Grandparent’s Day, Veteran’s Day, soccer practice and games. Papa encouraged him to always do his best and to stay true to his personal pathway in life.

John could be found each morning at the kitchen table reading his Bible and praying for family and friends. He was a cowboy at heart who loved horses and a great pair of leather boots. His personality was big and we shall miss him. We will strive to keep his memory on going so Giovanni, Ryleigh, and Katherine also remember the love of their papa.
