Jimmy was born in Benton, Kentucky on December 19, 1938, to Charles Raymond Jones and Eula Kathleen Jacobs Jones. He was a man of remarkable talent and boundless energy. Jimmy leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and joyous memories.
Jimmy’s life was characterized by his gift as the ultimate entertainer and his love for construction-related projects. He was the former owner and operator of Asphalt Paving & Maintenance in the mid-1970's through early 1980's. He was also a one-time owner of the Irvin Cobb Hotel. His career in construction was not limited to paving; he was also an ironworker on the monumental Niagara Falls Power Project and other various projects around the U.S. Jimmy also worked locally as a superintendent for PavCon out of Mayfield, KY.
No one left hungry when Jimmy cooked for large crowds, and he hosted many groups displaying a flair that made everything memorable. Until recently, he still loved inviting friends from near and far to his home to cook special meals for them. He loved telling jokes, and it was Jimmy’s mission to leave you with a laugh. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and loved hunting and camping on the family farm in Livingston County. Jimmy loved driving & entertaining groups on his tour bus with trips to Nascar races and dirt track races at Eldora Speedway. He and his wife, Mary, also drove the American Legion Baseball team to tournaments for several seasons.
Besides his late wife, Mary, Jimmy’s other faithful companion was his beloved pug, Grizz. Jimmy rarely went anywhere Grizz couldn’t go, and they were often seen driving around town together. He lost Grizz a few years ago, and to fulfill Jimmy’s one & only request, Grizz’s urn will be placed with him.
Jimmy’s big personality will never be forgotten and will be missed most by those who loved him.
Jimmy is survived by three sons, Mitchell Fiers (Melissa) of Reidland, Michael Fiers (Phyllis) of Lone Oak, and Jason Jones (Jennifer) of Reidland; one sister, Donna Sue Puryear; six grandchildren, Amber Fiers France, Tate Fiers (Madeline), Michael Todd Fiers (Kristin), Andrew Fiers, Brennan Southern, and Grayson Jones; six great-grandchildren, Kolton Fiers, Westyn Fiers, Landon Fiers, Aiden Armstrong, Eli France, and Korie Fiers who is expected to arrive in June.
