Janis Mason, 99 of Paducah passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, at Providence Pointe. She was born on January 11, 1926, in Folsomdale, KY, to the late Norman and Eula Taylor Davenport.
Janis's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as the former owner of the Lone Oak Laundry Mat and Skating Rink, where she fostered a warm and welcoming environment for all. Her business acumen and dedication to service were paralleled only by her deep-rooted involvement in the Lone Oak United Methodist Church. Since 1946, Janis has been a devoted member and a charter member of the Alice Gore Sunday School Class, where she found great joy in fellowship and faith. Her leadership extended into her community work, where she served with distinction as a member and past president of both the Lone Oak Homemakers and a member of the Graves County Homemakers.
Janis's zest for life was evident in her many interests and hobbies. She was an avid card and game player, with Phase 10 being one of her favorites, and she could often be found piecing together intricate jigsaw puzzles. Her love for Shirley Temple was matched by her adventurous spirit, which led her to a favorite activity of supervising the climbing of the Magnolia Tree by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a memory they all cherished.
Janis loved to cook, delighting family and friends with her delicious recipes. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful garden, which was not only a source of great pride but also a place of tranquility and joy. Above all, Janis's heart belonged to her family. She was a loving matriarch who adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to flourish in their lives. Janis is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Donnie) Woods of Hickory, KY; her seven grandchildren, Rae (Mike) Williamson of Metropolis, IL, Dawn Mason (Michael Dick) of Hickory, KY, Jennifer (Steve) Valcik of Phoenix, AZ, Christie (Ron) Slaton of Phoenix, AZ, Max (Julie) Woods of Hickory, KY, Brittney (Wallace) Medlin of Hickory, KY and Sarah (David) Sykes of Paducah; her eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, G.W. Mason and a son, Keith Mason.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Paducah with Rev. Bob Martin officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 AM at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Lone Oak.
