James “Rudy” Rudolph Holmes, age 74, of Paducah, KY, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family.
On October 9th, 2023 shortly after midnight, the crime fighting vigilante, SUPERMAN, though he fought hard, lost his final battle to the villain known as Pancreatic Cancer (Kryptonite), who has plagued our society for too long.
Rudy was born December 30th, 1948 to James and Dortha Holmes in Mayfield, KY. Rudy graduated from Mayfield High School. While there, he was known as a star football player proudly wearing #30 as a full back.
After High School, Rudy pursued his passions as a musician and artist. Bands included When, Who and Why, Gun Runner and several others. Rudy was a very talented artist. He was known for painting large local murals. Some included the Old Merit Building and The Good News Shoppe both in Mayfield, KY. Also, he painted a large mural at the historical society in Clinton, KY.
Rudy was a self-taught artist. He owned Tango Bay Art Studios in Paducah, KY. With his amazing artistic abilities he created beautiful paintings for his family, friends and commissioned pieces. Also, he designed signs, vinyl artwork and screen printing for local businesses. He also published his own comic book series, The Adventures of Rick Raygun and Quasi-Nodze, and Talonz.
When Rudy semi-retired he decided to pursue another career. Before his Kryptonite took over, he enjoyed spending his days with his brothers, Ronnie and Ricky, working in construction.
Rudy was also an avid collector of fantasy super heroes. He loved collecting comic books, statues and memorabilia.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sharon Wallace Holmes of Paducah, KY; one son, James Roy (Becky) Holmes of Sherman, TX; three Grandchildren, Kristopher (Cindy) Holmes, Karie (Thomas) Hardin, and Madison Holmes all of Sherman, TX; three Great-Grandchildren, Haygen Rogers, Breanna Schmeidler and Baylie Schmeidler all of Sherman, TX; his beloved dog and best friend, Jax; three Brothers, Ronnie (Rhonda) Holmes and Ricky (Gina) Holmes all of Mayfield, KY, and Rodney Holmes of North Vernon, Indiana.; two Brother-in-laws, David (Debbie) Wallace and Ricky Wallace (Linda Kilgore), one very special niece and nephew, that we love dearly and was always there for us when we needed them, Adam and Julie Holmes Nance and several nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by one son, Cheyenne Rudolph Holmes and his parents James Ruby Holmes and Dortha Rudolph Holmes.
He will forever be SUPERMAN in the sky to his family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 pm on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until the service hour of 6:00 pm on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
