James O. Scott, 82 of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
James was born on September 1, 1942, to the late, Harry Franklin Scott and Reba Oda Johnson Scott in Paducah, Kentucky, James lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a multitude of interests that brought joy to those around him.
Retiring as a Systems Technician for Business Phones, James also served with pride as a Paducah Ambassador, a role through which he exemplified community spirit and engagement. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a devout member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where his faith and fellowship were cornerstones of his life.
James' passions were as diverse as they were rich; he was a skilled leatherworker, an avid woodworker, a keen photographer, and an enthusiastic square dancer. His love for solving daily crossword puzzles was matched only by his fervor for University of Kentucky basketball, a team he supported wholeheartedly.
James is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary M. Walker Scott; two sons, Philip Scott and his wife, Kimberly Wajer-Scott of Evansville, Indiana, and Steve Scott of La Vergne, Tennessee; one grandson, Duncan Leo Scott; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Connor and Martha Jean Floyd; two brothers, Paul (Buddy) Scott and Harry Scott.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Clark officiating.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 until the service hour of 12:00 pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
