Born on October 24, 1934, in Alexander City, Alabama, Gwendolyn was a cherished daughter to the late Preston and Alice (Newman) Foshee. She spent her life nurturing her family, cultivating her gardens, and bringing joy to those around her.

Gwen's journey through life was one of devotion and care. She found her soulmate in Martin "Marty" Black Jr., who preceded her in death. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared values. Her legacy is carried on by her loving daughters, Nancy Broyles (Tim) of Paducah, Kentucky, and Donna Boyce of Huntsville, Alabama. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Debbie Melton. Gwen also embraced her role as a stepmother to Tracy Black (Ginger) of Locust Fork, Alabama. She created a home that was both a sanctuary and a place of gathering, filled with the aroma of her cooking and the beauty of her gardens. Her hands were rarely still, as she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as gardening and watching the hummingbirds that frequented her backyard. These moments of tranquility and connection with nature were a source of great contentment for her.

Gwen's personality was the epitome of friendliness and love. Her warm smile and open heart made her a beloved figure in her community. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, and her presence was a comfort to all who knew her.
