Gene Russell of Wickliffe, Kentucky, found peace after a long illness at the age of 90 on January 21, 2025. Gene passed away at the Life Care Center of La Center with his family friend and caregiver, Tara Henderson, by his side.
Gene was born on August 31, 1934, in Gage, Kentucky, to the late Robert and Floree Russell. His journey through life was characterized by his unwavering commitment to his community and his church. He served as a Deacon at Wickliffe First Baptist Church, a role he embraced with devotion and love. His commitment to service was also evident in his dedication to the Boy Scouts of America, where he was an Adult Leader for Troop 2066.
Gene's enthusiasm for life stretched far beyond his community service. He enjoyed playing the mountain dulcimer, and he found profound freedom in piloting his private planes. Gene was also a skilled shooter, achieving national ranking as a bench rest sharpshooter. He traveled extensively, with particularly memorable visits to the Holy Land, an experience that deeply touched his soul and spirit.
Gene is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jane Russell of Wickliffe; his daughter, Lisa Carolyn Russell, of Murray, Kentucky; a brother, Fain Landon Russell, of Kevil, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Claire Elizabeth Glasgow, Sarah Lawson Glasgow, Robert Alexander Russell, Cynthia Dotson, Angelia Dotson, and Desiree Dotson; one great-grandchild, Kai Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Allen Russell; his grandson, Joshua Allen Russell; and his parents.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Wickliffe with Bro. Butch Latta officiating.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until service time of 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Bethlehem Church Cemetery.
