Gary Lee Downs, a cherished member of the Paducah community passed away on July 6, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on February 25, 1953, in Paducah, Kentucky, Gary's bright personality and boundless energy were apparent even from his early years.
Gary's diligent work ethic was evident throughout his life. He built a notable career as an electrical salesman with Hannon Supply, where his knowledge and commitment to service left a lasting impression on both colleagues and customers. He further extended his passion for community interaction through his long tenure at Kingsway Skateland, becoming a beloved figure as he managed the establishment that brought joy to many.
A true lover of the great outdoors, Gary's happiest moments were those spent in the serenity of nature. His enthusiasm for the outdoors produced memorable adventures exploring the American West. He loved to travel and enjoyed telling stories about the places he had visited as well as the experiences he enjoyed while he was there.
Above all, Gary adored his family, who brought him immeasurable joy. His love knew no bounds, and the lessons he taught, the stories he told, and the memories he created will continue to be a guiding light for them. He was a mentor, a role model, and a pillar of love, providing a foundation of family unity that will stand firm for generations.
Gary is survived by his wife of 22 years, JoAnn Mary (Johnson) Downs; two daughters, Kayla Toth of Phoenix, Arizona and Tammie (Kyle) Poat of Paducah, Kentucky; one son, Justin Tyler of Boston, Massachusetts; three sisters, Linda (Bobby) Northington of Kevil, Kentucky, Barbara (David) Logsdon of Barlow, Kentucky, and Marylin Raye of Calvert City, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Prewitt Toth, Monroe Toth, Zachary Poat, and Zane Poat.
Preceding Gary in death is his father, Delmus Downs; his mother, Gertrude May (Boyd); two sisters, Joyce Reber and Delma Jean Boss; two brothers, William “Bill” Downs and Alvin Downs.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Milner and Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Paducah. The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 11 AM at Gary and JoAnn’s residence.
