Derrell Morehead passed away peacefully in his sleep on Decemeber 17, 2024, at the age of 82. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and passion for helping others.
Derrell was an ironworker and worked on many famous construction sites including the John Hanock building in Chicago and on the construction of Interstate 24. He also owned several gas stations in Metropolis and Paducah.
Derrell had a passion for taking care of animals, espescially his dogs: Bentley, Fletcher, Sun-Tzu and Yoshi. He loved watching westerns, listening to George Jones, playing pool and ship/captain/crew dice games with his friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Morehead and husband, Timothy Griffin of Bradenton, Florida; his son, Douglas Morehead and wife, Marsha Morehead of Brookport, Illinois; three granddaughters, Kristen Dietz (Tyler) of De Soto, Illinois, Leah Hampton of Nashville, Tennessee and Lauren Slater (Zack) of Milan, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Brody Dietz, Mack Slater and Charlie Slater; his brother, Jerry Morehead of Martin, Tennessee; and sister, Sylvia Rose of Grand Rivers, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Credie Morehead; sister, Flora Lee; and two brothers, John Alvin Morehead and Don Morehead.
According to Derrell’s last wishes, a funeral will not be held. A Celebration of his Life will be held when his remains are interred at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fruitland, Tennessee.
