Daniel Watson Phelps, age 71, of Paducah, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at home surrounded by his family and loved ones overlooking his farm.
Daniel was born in Paducah on February 3, 1952 to Watson and Avis Reed Phelps. He was the proud owner of Phelps Farm and Home, his family owned business since 1956. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting Dan, you knew he never met a stranger and always greeted everyone with a smile. He enjoyed most of all being with his family and serving the Lord. He also enjoyed farming, raising cattle and riding his tractor. Dan was a board member on the McCracken County Farm Bureau Board since 1977 and on the McCracken County Soil Conservation Board. Not only was Dan a dedicated business man, he was a devoted family man. He taught his family the importance of faith and believing in the Lord. He was a member of Bellview Baptist Church for over 50 years where he drove the bus, was a Sunday School teacher, helped with the youth, served on mission trips and was a Deacon. Dan was Treasurer for Gideons International.
Dan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cindy Wright Phelps; one daughter, Sarah Alvey (Daniel) of Boaz; one son, Luke Phelps (Nicole) of Paducah; one sister, Susan Carr (Lewis) of Paducah; four grandchildren, Claire Alvey, Lillian Phelps, Abby Alvey and Davis Phelps.
He was preceded in death by one brother, David Reed Phelps and his parents.
Dan always said he was “tremendous” when asked how he was. Today we can honestly say he is!
