Betty Rushing, age 86, of Lone Oak, Kentucky, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025, at her home.
She was born on August 1, 1939, to James Louis “Jim” Rushing and Cora Lee Legate Rushing and was the tenth of fifteen children. Betty has been a lifetime member of the Highland Cumberland Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder, a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Women's group as Treasurer, and helping on various church committees. She always had a helping and serving attitude in her own quiet way.
Betty was a 1959 graduate of Lone Oak High School. After graduation, she worked as a cashier at Boyd’s Market in Lone Oak. She drove a school bus for McCracken County Schools and then retired from Union Carbide, USEC, after 29 years as an operator.
Betty's cherished daily trip was to eat at Parker's Drive-in, where she had her own booth. She enjoyed visiting and telling stories with the staff and anyone who stopped by to eat.
Betty was a proud University of Kentucky Basketball fan and attended many SEC Tournaments, eight of which she shared with her nieces and nephews, whom she gave the trip as their high school graduation present.
Survivors include two sisters, Martha “Babe” Perry, of Paducah, Kentucky, and Shirley (Willie) Myers of Columbia, Illinois; three brothers, Kenneth (Elene) Rushing, Buddy (Ann) Rushing, and Roy (Sharon) Rushing, all of Paducah, Kentucky; one brother-in-law, Ed Schnittger of Columbia, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceding in death were her parents, Jim & Cora Lee Rushing; five sisters, Ann Boatwright, Rebecca Metcalf, Allie “Dink” Jones, Joyce Guhy, and Margie Schnittger; four brothers, Jimmy Rushing, Bill Rushing, Don Rushing, and Bob Rushing.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Bud Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Kenton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home.
