Betty Morten Mitchell

Betty Morten Mitchell, 87, of Northfield, Illinois, passed away on January 23, 2025.  

Betty was born in Columbus, Kentucky to the late Curtiss and Fannie Morten.  She later moved to Paducah, Kentucky.  She graduated from Central High School and then from Draughon’s Business College. Betty married Joseph Grant Mitchell on August 10, 1957.  While living in Paducah, she was an active member of the Charity League.

Betty was preceded in death by her late husband, Joseph G. Mitchell; parents Curtiss and Fannie Morten, of Columbus, Kentucky; brothers William “Grundy” Morten (Carol), Ralph Morten (Vera), Gene Morten; sisters Barbara Toon (John F), Ruth Harman (Paul), and Ada Gertrude Morten. 

She is survived by her sons Joseph Grant Mitchell of Northfield, Illinois and Michael Lee Mitchell (Leslie) of Terre Haute, Indiana; grandson Joseph Dalton Mitchell (Ashton), step- grandson Steele Manwaring; and great-grandson James Mitchell; sister Nancy Henley (Jimmy); brother-in-law, John F. Toon, Jr.; nieces Kelly Murphy (Billy), Cindy Toon Williams, Mylene Cromwell (Doug), Debra Kluk (Richard), Pamela Fotino (Domenic), and Dia Mitchell Canter (Robert); nephews John R. Morten Jr. (Yvonne), Dr. Kevin Toon (Amy), Rick Mitchell (Linda), and David Henley (Cindy), as well as many great nieces and nephews. 
 
Services will be on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, 120 Memorial Dr. Paducah, KY.  Entombment will follow at Brook Hill Memorial Park & Mausoleums, 780 N. Friendship Rd. Paducah, KY.
