Linda K. Cartner, 78, of Paducah, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at her home.

Linda was a one-of-a-kind soul. She loved to travel when she could, to garden and tend to her flowers, and quilts. Linda had so many things she loved and wanted to do. She wasn’t perfect and she knew that, but she always hoped to learn from her mistakes. She brought her daughters up to be very independent and hard workers.

No child, person, or animal was a stranger to her. If you were her friend or a family friend, she counted you as one of her own. You were her family too. If there was a stray cat or dog, she would care for it. Her cats, Heycat, Fluff, and Fatty Tabby, were her true comfort for her last four years.

Linda was a dental hygienist in California and South Carolina. She also helped run her parent’s horse farm, Russ-n-Nola Farm in Spartanburg. She moved back to Illinois and was a dental hygienist in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Linda opened her own business in Southern Illinois, Cartner’s Barn. She moved her business to Cape later and renamed it Linda’s Place. She ran the store for years, she made and sent quilts all over the United States. She also loved designing quilts for people. Linda would donate handmade quilts to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri, now known as Southeast Missouri Pets. She closed her store to care for her mother during her illness.

She soon moved to Kentucky to be closer to her grandkids. She worked at Hancock Fabric for years. When she retired, she volunteered for the Paducah Ambassadors and the National Quilt Museum.

Linda is survived by her two daughters, Katherine (Chip) Ashford and Stacey (Scott) Ballard; six grandchildren, Logan (Ashlea) Thieke, Aaron Thieke, Iris Register, Avery Register, L.T. Register, and Angel (Lee) Bugg; and three great-grandchildren, Abbi Bugg, Leam Bugg, and soon to be born Maddox Bugg.

Preceding Linda in death is her husband, Lyman Cartner, and her mom, Nola Hall Walther.

No services are scheduled at this time for Linda. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to donate to your local animal shelter or to Southeast Missouri Pets (located at 180 Weston St, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701).

Lindsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
