John Louis Childers of Metropolis, Il passed away on April 21,2025 at age 77 after a loss battle of cancer.
He was born on July 15,1947 to James Louis Childers and Genevra Spore Childers May. John graduated from Metropolis High School in 1965.
After high school John enlisted in the US Navy and served his country in the Vietnam War. After the Navy John worked and retired from the U.S. Postal service as a letter carrier for the City of Paducah. He then held several part time jobs including security for Noble Park and West Kentucky Technical College. John was an avid Harley Davidson motorcyclist. He had a goal to ride in all the lower 48 states and he accomplished that goal in 2020. He was a member of the NRA, American Leagion#306, Purchase Area Southern Cruisers #383, Purchase Area Walk of Emmaus #3 Table of Mark, Duke of Paducah, John was of the Baptist faith. He leaves behind a son Chad Broadway and wife Christina, and a granddaughter Callie Broadway. Anyone who knew John knew how much he loved his granddaughter and would tell anyone he met. John also leaves behind a brother Jerel Childers, and countless family and friends. John was an animal lover, and his beloved Sophie preceded him in death. John donated a kidney in 2011 and wanted to encourage everyone to be an organ donor.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday May 3, 2025, at the IOOF cemetery in Metropolis, IL.
