Gloria Jean “Jeannie” Forthman, 73, of Metropolis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center.

Jeannie was a headstrong woman who loved her life and her family with all her heart. Jeannie had a caring nature when it came to children, she spent years as a foster parent and also as a teacher’s aide. She was an active member of the Massac County community and volunteered every opportunity she could. Jeannie had a green thumb like no other. She loved being out in her garden taking care of her flowers. She also enjoyed cooking. Jeannie had a strong faith in her Lord and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Belknap.

Jeannie is survived by three children, Laurie (Jeff) Taylor, Rodger (Crystal) Forthman Jr, and Jamie (Matthew) Jenkins; three siblings, David Baker, Steve (Kathy) Baker, and Jamie (Melissa) Baker; 11 grandchildren, Lindsey (Eric) Eidson, Luke (McKenzie) Taylor, Lance (Kelley) Taylor, Lesley (Austin) Travis, Rodger Forthman III, Amber Forthman, Hayden Forthman, Andrew Forthman, Caleb (Shelley) Crim, Colbe Crim, and Daisy Jenkins; 13 great-grandchildren, Johnny, Calleigh, Cameron, Mila, Leif, Waylon, Colter, Elizabeth, Addeline, Lily, Reagan, Cooper, and Kai; nephew and niece Frank and Sara Forthman; and several other loving nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jeannie is the love of her life since she was 16, Rodger Forthman Sr; one daughter, April Crim; and her parents, Gene and Edna Baker.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Jeannie at a later date.
