Ginger Lea Thomas, 68, of Lovelaceville, Kentucky, passed away at her home on October 3, 2024. After a five-year battle with cancer, she was greeted with “Well done, good and faithful servant,” by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Ginger was born in Paducah, Kentucky, on November 10, 1956, to Sue (White) Gholson and the late Ferd F. Gholson, and she lived in Lovelaceville, Kentucky, her entire life. She was a graduate of Ballard Memorial High School (1974) and was a member of First Baptist Church of Barlow. Ginger worked numerous jobs, but she spent her final working years at the Ballard County courthouse, where she retired after more than 20 years there.

Ginger is survived by her husband of 49 years, Gary; her two children, Josh (Lindsay) and Erin (Gift); four grandchildren, Elan, Rose, Vivienne, and Esther; her mother, Sue Gholson, and mother-in-law, Norma Gene Thomas; two siblings, Julia (Philip) and Russell; numerous cherished nephews and nieces; many beloved cousins, including her Gholson Girls; and tons of amazing friends who enriched her life in so many ways.
She was preceded in the death by her father, Ferd F. Gholson.

Ginger lived her life to glorify her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She never took herself too seriously and had a unique way of making other people feel valued and special. Her generosity and kindness were often on display, as was her legendary sense of humor. Ginger and Gary loved to take trips and travel with family and friends, often visiting grandkids in Louisville and Richmond, Virginia. She was always on the move and lived an active lifestyle, hiking and exploring new places. And last, but certainly not least, Ginger was an invested University of Kentucky basketball fan who enjoyed sitting on the back porch sipping coffee with those she loved.

Services for Ginger will be held at First Baptist Church of Barlow (135 N 6th St, Barlow, KY 42024) on Saturday, October 12, with visitation at 11 a.m. and the service to follow at 2 p.m.

The family requests that donations be made in her honor to Hope Unlimited Family Care Center in Paducah or Samaritan’s Purse.
