Billy Rushing

Billy Joe Rushing, age 94 of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away at home Friday, September 27, 2024, after a brief illness.   
 
Billy was born November 9, 1929, in Paducah, Kentucky, to the late Edward Guy Rushing and the late Mary Maude Rushing. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Ray Rushing, Charles Warren Rushing, Barbara Nell Bennett, Shirley Joiner, Donald Rushing and Susie Johnson.  He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Faye Rushing; three sons, Kelley Rushing (Cheryl) of Sikeston, MO, Gary Dale Rushing (Lisa) of Tupelo, MS, and Mark Alan Rushing of Lexington, KY.   
 
He was a proud grandfather to Matt Rushing (Alli), Amy King (Sam), Nathan Rushing (Brittany), Ashley McCullough (Andrew), Shawn Rushing and Tyler Chisholm.  Billy was also a proud great grandfather to Ada Grace Rushing, Reed Cole Rushing, Noah Joe Rushing, Kelley Beth King, Kip King and Lainey Hope Rushing.  He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of Levi Samuel McCullough and Rowan James Rushing in October and December.  
 
 
Billy served in the US Air Force as a Staff Seargent for four years.  He was retired from Illinois Central and P & L Railroads after 41 years of service.  He worked 17 years for Lindsey and Roth Funeral Homes after retiring.  He was an avid supporter and fan of the University of Kentucky Basketball program, the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team and the University of Alabama Football team.  He enjoyed discussing their success and needs with his sons and with his Twelve Oaks Baptist Church friends.   
 
Billy enjoyed being a member of the Twelfth Street/Twelve Oaks Baptist Church serving on numerous committees:  Chairman of the Deacons, Pastor Search Committee Chairman, Baptismal Committee Chairman, Usher, Trustee, Home Bound Visitor, Greeter, Transportation, Counting Committee and his favorite of all, the Nursing Home and Assisted Living Ministry Team.   
 
Billy was loved by many and touched many lives with his honest caring heart.  If you were blessed to know him, you knew what a beautiful soul he was and will surely smile at the thought of him in the presence of Jesus.   
 
Funeral services for Billy will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 11:30 at Twelve Oaks Baptist Church with Pastor Boogie Butler and Danny Orzine officiating. Private family burial will follow.
 
Friends may visit the family Thursday at the church from 10:00 to service hour. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Twelve Oaks Baptist Church for building debt retirement fund, 2110 New Holt Rd., Paducah, KY 42001
