John Wilkey, born April 11, 1954, in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. He was 71 years old.
John dedicated much of his life to his career as Co-Owner of Jon-Michaels Hairstyling in Paducah, where his passion for his work and his commitment to the community left a lasting impact. Beyond his professional endeavors, John was known for his warm and generous spirit. He was a wonderful cook, delighting those around him with his culinary skills. His love for animals was evident in the care and affection he showed to his beloved pets, especially his cherished furbaby, Wendy.
John’s life was deeply enriched by his family and friends. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Mary Lou Wilkey of Mt. Vernon, Indiana; his partner of 53 years, Carl Derrickson of Paducah; and his daughter, Tiki Derrickson (Jeff Hamilton) of Paducah. He also leaves behind one sister, Angie Bashum of New Albany, Indiana, as well as several nieces and nephews who hold his memory close.
John was preceded in death by his father, Walter Wilkey, and his brother, Ronald Wilkey. Their memories remain a significant part of his story and are carried forward by those who knew and loved them.
