Thomas Russel Sherwood III passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 18th, at the age of 78. A devoted husband, brother, and friend, Tommy will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Born on October 29, 1946, Tommy lived a life full of curiosity, warmth, and wisdom. He was preceded by his father, Russell, his mother, Bunny, and the best dog to ever brave this mortal coil, Captain Delmar Scully. Those left to cherish Tommy’s memory include his wife of 35 years, Shari Sherwood of Hazel; two sisters, Faith Darling of California, Emily Hixson of Kentucky; one son, Tim Hammock (Tina) of Oregon; two grandchildren, Amanda Hammock, Kim Sisu (Zack); four nieces, Debbie Reboin (Mike), Natalie Enochs

(Brian), Bethany Bowden (Ben), Danielle Downs (Ben); two nephews, Nathan Strack, Joshua Martin (Doreen); one great nephew, Sam Martin (aka the coolest kid on the planet) and four great grandchildren.

Tommy was a true master of trivia, with an encyclopedic knowledge that often amazed those around him. He had a Gandalf-like appreciation for nature—wise, gentle, and always in tune with the world around him. He found joy in gardening, where he nurtured life with the same care and enthusiasm he gave to the people and animals he loved. A loyal fan of the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers, Tommy never missed a chance to cheer for his teams, through every season.

Above all, Tommy wanted to laugh with you. Whether over a cup of coffee, a clever joke, or a shared memory, he believed in the joy of connection and the healing power of laughter.

His calm presence, sharp wit, and boisterous laugh left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
