Mrs. Peggy Mitchell, 87, of New Concord, KY, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY surrounded by her loving family that she adored.

Peggy was born on October 28, 1937 to the late William Taft and Louise Oliver Patterson.

Peggy was a 1955 graduate of New Concord High School. Peggy was a natural born class leader.  She led her Red Bird class as Salutatorian and Class Treasurer.  Not only was Peggy academically gifted and driven but she loved to laugh and be social. Voted by her classmates as the "wittiest" girl of the class, Peggy loved school and always found inspiration in being surrounded by people she treasured.

Due to her love of sports, especially basketball, Peggy almost transferred to a nearby Tennessee high school where females had the opportunity to participate in interscholastic sports.  However, with an immense love and loyalty to her school, Peggy couldn't leave her fellow Red Bird classmates.

Upon her high school graduation, Peggy earned an academic scholarship to attend Murray State College.  With minimal transportation opportunities, she carpooled with her local Red Bird classmates to be able to earn an advanced education.  Within two years, this little country girl had become the first in her immediate family to attend college and earn an Associate's Degree in Business.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Mitchell; a brother, W.T. Patterson, as well as her parents.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving daughter, Darra Mitchell Benson of Murray, who loved and cared for each of her parents until the day they departed this earthly home; two grandchildren, Lauren Rojas (Hector) of Murray and Will Benson of Murray.  In addition, she leaves behind a beloved sister-in-law, Linda Patterson of Panama City, FL; a very special niece and nephew, Paige Pope (Tim) of Nashville and Dr. Payton Patterson (Kristy) of Panama City, FL; a host of other nieces and nephews that she cherished deeply; a special cousin, Sue Adams of Murray; a dear family friend, Molly Imes and beloved caregiver, Shanna "Anna" Parrish Neely.

A public graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Murray City Cemetery with John Dale and Russ Crosswhite officiating.  Pallbearers include, Chuck Adams, Daniel Spiceland, Randy McCallon, Chad Stubblefield, Morgan Evans and Hector Rojas.

In order to continue her love for others and to ease the financial burden of advancing a child’s education, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Peggy Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o the Murray Bank, P.O. Box 1300, Murray, Kentucky.
