Mary Leona Hornbuckle Johnson, 88, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023.

She was born on January 26, 1935 to the late John H. Hornbuckle, Sr and Frocie Mae Hornbuckle and was a retired Fayette County (Lexington, KY) first grade school teacher. After retirement, she became a substitute teacher for Calloway County Schools and eventually went on to establish her own daycare in Murray - The Little School Daycare.

A devoted Christian, Ms. Johnson was a Sunday School teacher, served as a member of the Usher Board and Missionary Society and was a faithful member of Evergreen Baptist in Lexington and later, of St John's Baptist in Murray.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Charlene Phillis Marie Hornbuckle, two brothers - John H. Hornbuckle Jr and Reverend William H. Hornbuckle, nephew Alvin Parham, niece Mary Hornbuckle, great niece Elizabeth Hornbuckle and nephew James Arthur Hornbuckle.

Ms. Johnson is survived by her son, Mark Lenn Johnson (Tabitha Beckett), two grandsons (MacKenzie and Matthew Johnson), James R.Hornbuckle (brother), Thomas W. Hornbuckle (brother), (Lillie Ann Hornbuckle), sister Thelma R. Hornbuckle Bowers (Melvin Bowers), Althia Parham-Caldwell (niece), nephew James Anthony Parham (Shona Parham), Renee Hornbuckle (niece), James Richard Hornbuckle Jr (nephew), K. Lynn Trice (niece), Thomas Hornbuckle Jr (nephew), (Letitia Hornbuckle), Jeanne Hornbuckle Blanton (niece), Betty Sue Hornbuckle-Harlin (niece), Bill Hornbuckle (nephew), Brian Caldwell (great nephew), Tiffany Parham (great niece), Xavier Parham (great nephew) Tre Hornbuckle (great nephew), Tyson Hornbuckle (great nephew) ,Shaun Hornbuckle (great nephew), Thomas Hornbuckle (great nephew), Juan Hornbuckle, Bill Hornbuckle (great nephews) , Errie Hornbuckle (great niece) LE- Harlin ,Torre Harlin (great nephews) Olivia Trice, Alicia Hornbuckle, Jasmine Hornbuckle (great nieces) many friends as well as an enormous amount of appreciative students from over 30 + years of teaching.

The homegoing service will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 11 am at St John's Baptist Church in Murray. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at St. John's Baptist Church.
