Barbara Kathryn Culbert

Ms. Barbara Kathryn Culbert, 87, of Murray, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at her home.

Kathy was born February 19, 1937 in Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, MN. Following in the footsteps of her mother, she attended Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing, Macalester College (St. Paul, MN), Berea College (Berea, KY), the University of Colorado, and Murray State University.

A registered Nurse, she worked at N.W.H., Berea College Hospital, and the University of CO Psychiatric Hospital. She taught Mental Health Nursing at Murray State University from 1968-1988. Kathy then worked as a Mental Health Consultant at Murray Calloway Co. Hospital, Home Health, and Hospice, and at the Adolescent Mental Health Unit at Charter Hospital in Paducah from 1988-1999. She retired in 2000, after which she did private counseling until the present.

Kathy fostered, adopted, and loved many dogs, cats, horses, and one mule. She also purchased a donkey from a neighbor. These companions were her best friends along with quite a number of the human-kind, too many to mention here, but you know who you are.

Kathy’s brother Eddie was a constant support to her. Her nieces Shawn and Heather and nephew Brian, were always close in her life and heart. Her brother Michael (deceased), Patrick (deceased), and sister-in-law Bobbi were always a significant and beloved part of her life.

Kathy loved the garden, flowers, lakes and rivers and forests. She loved the earth and did her best to tend her part of it. She hoped to leave behind a world which in some small way was touched by her life and her love.
