L.W. Allen passed away peacefully at his home in Kevil, Kentucky, on Monday, October 27, at the age of 28.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, graduated at age sixteen from Challenge Academy at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and attended Georgia Technical College in Lawrenceville, Georgia, with a focus on Biomedical Engineering.
L.W. was an old soul—wise far beyond his years. When he was old enough to speak well, he told stories of going with his grandfather to the wharf to see the tall ships. Military history was his passion, from ancient Greece to modern times. Surely he was a Knight Templar in a former life.
He was also passionate about his games—ClockworkXdemon was known around the world. A very talented whistler, he could rival Bing Crosby.
After his diagnosis, he started checking things off his bucket list: climbing through the trenches in Civil War battlefields, rafting down the Chattahoochee River, tearing through the Nashville Zoo on two wheels during his first experience using a 4-wheel scooter.
He investigated one of the few remaining German U-boats, explored Scotland (and really had the legs to wear a kilt!). L.W. had a thunder of dragons, many of which he raised from eggs. All of this was set to his favorite music—Swedish metal group Sabaton.
Even as a young child, he was an animal whisperer—wild or tame, they loved him. One of his first wild encounters was with a baby alligator that he found in Florida, and he wanted to bring it home. He swam with a baby manatee; it really loved for him to scratch its belly. Any turtle was automatically a pet, and a squirrel could be coaxed to come to his hand.
L.W. is survived by his mother, Janie Gins of Kevil, Kentucky; two sisters, Meredith Hyatte of Monkey’s Eyebrow, Kentucky, and Morgan Hyatte of Nashville, Tennessee; a niece, Zoe Taylor; a nephew, Brantley Kelley; a sister-of-the-heart, Mary Sargent; and his beloved ginger cat companion of many years, Milo.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, W C Colson and Martha Colson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
