Paducah | Apr. 09, 1930 | Jan. 12, 2025
We announce the passing of our beloved Mom and Grammy on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY with her daughter and son- in-law by her side.

Beverly, 94, was a beacon of hope, kindness and warmth. She was a cherished mother, loving grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She wanted everyone to feel loved and she accomplished this by giving her time and loving on anyone in need.

Beverly was born on April 9th, 1930, in Mayfield, KY to Georgia Elizabeth Clampett Horner and John Patterson Horner. She was an only child who attended and graduated from Mayfield Highschool.

On November 4, 1951, Beverly married Henry (Harry) Atkins, and the couple had two children. Inside the bible that Beverly gave Harry on their wedding day, she wrote him a message that reads, “I can only love you with a love that lasts forever.”

The family lived in St. Louis, MO and were members of Edmundson Road Baptist Church for most of their lives. Later in life, Beverly and Harry moved to Springfield, MO then to Benton, KY to be closer to their children.

Beverly was a homemaker and truly loved people. While she wasn’t always happy, she always had joy in her soul, and she often hummed a church chorus all day long. She loved chocolate and hamburgers. She took pride in cutting out coupons and articles of the newspaper for anyone it reminded her of. She fed all the stray cats and people in the neighborhood. She treated the rich woman who lived next door in the same way she treated the prostitute who lived down the road. She enjoyed going to thrift stores and sometimes collected too many things, but she always arrived with a sack of stuff she thought we might like with our names on it. She devoted herself to the Lord, shared her faith with anyone who would listen and adored her children and grandchildren.

Despite having dementia for the last 15 years of her life, Beverly remained sweet and grateful. She was always thankful for the little things and found beauty where most would not. In the last couple years of her life, her eyes were tired and could not stay open, but she could still see the goodness of God around her. She may not have always known where she was or who we were, but she never forgot who her Savior was. We are comforted knowing that she is a Christian and there is no doubt that she is in the Presence of her Lord and Savior to spend eternal life in Heaven where we will join her when our time comes.

Beverly is survived by her son, Barry (Beth) Atkins of Springfield, MO and daughter, Becky (Tandy) Henson of Symsonia, KY; grandchildren: Tannette Henson, Scott (April) Henson, Christopher (Andrea) Atkins, Rebecca (Sam) Rothrock, Drew (Nicole) Atkins and Maggie Atkins; great-grandchildren: Kheilenn Weitlauf, Brent Weitlauf Jr (Ashley), Peyton Weitlauf, Henry Rothrock, Emilie Rothrock, Nolan Atkins, Eleanor Atkins, Evelyn Rothrock, Kate Rothrock, Jack Rothrock, Cullen Atkins, Hudson Atkins, June Atkins and Ezra Atkins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Seth Atkins and her husband, Harry of 68 years.

Visitation will begin at 11 am on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Hughes Funeral Home, 2975 Old Husbands Road, Paducah, KY 42003. Funeral service officiated by Pastor Rick will be held at 1 pm immediately following visitation.
