Mr. John "Vic" Milner, 74, of Hazel, KY, transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Baptist Health in Paducah.
Mr. Milner was born on March 24, 1949 in Frankfort, IN to the late John and Julia Catron Milner. He and his wife, Cheryl, are members of Calvary Temple Church.
Vic dedicated his life to spreading the message of Jesus and sharing his passion for martial arts. In 1975, he graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, beginning his remarkable journey. He went on to become the first martial arts instructor at Murray State, earning recognition as a Murray State Superstar in 1972. In 1982, Vic gained national acclaim when he was featured in PM Magazine, showcasing his dedication to martial arts and inspiring countless individuals. Throughout his career, he had the privilege of meeting legendary figures such as Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris in 1969, a testament to his influence in the martial arts community.
A true lifelong learner of the arts, Vic held black belts in four different styles and established dojos in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Illinois. His impact extended far beyond the dojo, as he touched the lives of over 7000 students and mentored 56 martial arts instructors. As the Chief Council of Shihan's, he played a pivotal role in shaping martial arts. He founded the Christian Martial Arts Association, emphasizing a prerequisite for membership – a commitment to being a born-again Christian and follower of Jesus Christ. For several years, Vic contributed to the community by teaching at the Murray Calloway County Wellness Center. Known for his toughness in discipline and tenderness in heart, he was a man who believed he was placed on this earth to spread the message of Jesus.
He is preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Brenda Milner.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 33 years, Mrs. Cheryl Holsapple Milner of Hazel; a son, Chris Tucker (Stefanie) of Clinton; a sister, Lou Ann Collins (Joe) of Edinburg, IN; three grandchildren, Savanna Roth (Jay), Audrey Tucker, Whitley Jo Tucker, as well as, a soon to be born great granddaughter, Elsie Lou. In addition, he leaves behind a niece, Tammy Jo Burroughs (Mike) of Indiana; great niece, Julia Burroughs; great nephew, Collin Burroughs; aunt, Marge Jackson and many cousins.
The funeral service honoring the life of Mr. Vic Milner is set for 11 am on Monday, January 22, 2024 at the Heritage Chapel of Imes Funeral Home. Darrell Young will officiate and burial will follow at Hazel Cemetery. Pallbearers include Shawn McClure, Chad Lewis, Eury Tynes, Josh Smith, Tim Beane, Sam Watson. Honorary pallbearers are Terrell Tidwell, John Young, Dr. Dan McCaslin, Mike Ray, Craig Darnell, Bob Bass, Carson Burnett.
His family welcomes visitors from 5 pm – 8 pm on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the Heritage Chapel.
All friends and family are invited to share a meal with the family at Calvary Temple Church, immediately following the burial.
