Ronnie K Northcutt, 94, of Calvert City, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Calvert City Convalescent Center.
Ron was born to the late Dwight Northcutt and Norma Alexander Northcutt in 1930 in Cerra Gordo, Tennessee. He had many stories of growing up on a farm in rural Tennessee and if you sat for a while at his kitchen table, he would tell them all to you.
Born with a natural ability to understand the way things work, his hands were always set to the task of fixing them. At the age of 10, he began repairing his father’s farm tractor. As a young man, he served in the United States Navy, maintaining the radio system on the naval destroyer USS Allen M. Sumner. After earning a degree from Rolla School of Mines, he began a career in electrical and instrument engineering that eventually brought him to Calvert City where he oversaw instrumentation at the Airco, Pennwalt, Goodrich and Westlake companies. For a few years, he co-owned an engineering consulting and drafting company called Construction Service Company.
In 1952, Ron married Geraldine Ayres and together they set about building a family. Ron became the father to Greg and Kent and his hands lead them down the path to manhood, repairing toys, minibikes, stereos, and guitar amplifiers along the way. Then he became the grandfather to Ben, Casey, Micah, Aaron, Emily, Peter, Rachel, Haley, and Tessa and his lap became the favorite place for each of them to sit and talk or read the newspaper comic strips. In his last years, his family grew to include eleven great-grandchildren who call him “Ronnie” and his eyes lit up every time he saw them.
As his family grew, it expanded to include his friends and neighbors, a slew of teenagers from the First Baptist Church of Calvert City, and miscellaneous young people who share no family connection but call him Granddaddy anyway. Ron was respected and loved by most everyone he met along the path God gave him to walk.
From beginning to end, no matter what his hands were set to do, Ron’s eyes were on the Lord. With wisdom, he served his church and community. With a strong and quiet love, he has guided his family in the ways of God. His race is now complete. He ran it well.
Ron is survived by a son, Gregory (Leigh Ann) Northcutt of Calvert City; a son of the heart, Michael (Cherrie) Ford of Calvert City; nine grandchildren, Benjamin (Jessica) Northcutt of Clinton, MS, Casey (Benjamin) Watson of Paducah, Micah (Melissa) Northcutt of St. Louis, MO, Aaron Northcutt of Elizabethtown, Emily (Landon) Smith of Calvert City, Peter (Marlee) Northcutt of Calvert City, Rachel (Blake) Crawford of Franklin, TN, Haley Ford of Paducah and Tessa Northcutt of Calvert City; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Ayers Northcutt; son, Kent (Cherrie Ford) Northcutt; and his parents, Dwight Northcutt and Norma Alexander Northcutt.
