Roger Morton, 79, of Fairdealing, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Roger was born in Murray, Kentucky on February 27, 1944 to the late Willard Morton and Hazel Lamb Morton of Olive, Kentucky. Roger served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War out of Ft. Benning, Georgia. He was a member of Olive Baptist Church. He was also a long time member of Alford-Hardin #925 Masonic Lodge. Roger was employed with SKW Alloys in Calvert City and worked many long years as a logger.
He worked very hard to care for and support his family. Roger’s passions were hunting and fishing. He spent many of those days deer hunting, turkey hunting and loved squirrel hunting with his dogs. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him so much joy and happiness. Memories of his love will remain forever!
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janie Miller Morton of Fairdealing, Kentucky; his two daughters, Gina Morton Garland (Mitchell) of Aurora, Kentucky and Angie Morton Murphy (Quinten Smethers) of Fairdealing, Kentucky; his son, Rodney Morton of Nashville, Tennessee; one sister, Trish Morton of Murray, Kentucky; his four amazing grandchildren, Bailey Murphy (Dustin Bevil), Jillian Murphy (Justin Nall), Nate Garland, and Brooke Garland; two great-grandchildren, Grayson Mitchell Bevil and Collins Jane Bevil; one former son-in-law, Frank Murphy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Ronald “Jug” Morton and Nick Morton; and his parents, Willard Morton and Hazel Lamb Morton.
“And whoever would be first among you must be slave to all” Mark 10:44. Roger was a true servant to his family and anyone in need, to know him was a blessing within itself. He lived a good honest life. He will be missed tremendously here on earth but he is high above continuing to serve us. This is not goodbye but see you soon, and what a glorious day that will be!
