John Story, 56, of Paducah, Kentucky, and formerly of Possum Trot passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Mercy Health Lourdes.
Born on August 26, 1968, in Benton, Kentucky, John was the son of David Story and Suzette McDougal Story. As a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #184 and United Steel Workers Local #727, John was not a stranger to hard work and spent many years working as a mechanic for Sekisui in Calvert City and was a member of Sharpe Baptist Church.
He was a passionate outdoorsman and a gun enthusiast who loved dirt racing and drag racing, riding horses, and traveling. John had a particular fondness for the rodeo, having personally qualified three times for the National High School Rodeo Finals and earned the title of State All-Around Cowboy twice during high school. While in college, he continued competing in rodeos and was a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Additionally, John was a music lover with a taste for music spanning various genres. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle, and his family will forever cherish the love he shared with them, along with his famous buttermilk pies.
He is survived by his wife, Debby Story of Paducah, Kentucky; his daughter, Paige Story of Sedalia, Kentucky; his son, Shane Story of Cookeville, Tennessee; one sister, Rebecca “Becky” Story Bone of Benton, Kentucky; his niece, Maria Bone of Benton; and his parents, David M. Story and Suzette McDougal Story.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Life Celebration Center of Filbeck-Cann, 1003 Poplar Street, Benton, KY 42025.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Life Celebration Center of Filbeck-Cann with Bro. Jeremy Short officiating. Burial will follow at Fooks Cemetery.
