James E. Riley, age 83, of Benton, passed away Monday, November 27, 2023 at Baptist Health Paducah.
He was born on July 12, 1940 in Graves County, Kentucky to his late parents, Raymond and Clotine Riley. James spent the remainder of his career as a supervisor for Rail Services in Calvert City after Modine Manufacturing plant closed, where he was a laborer. He was a member of Oak Level Church and enjoyed bird hunting, especially his pheasant hunts in South Dakota. James loved spending time with his family, from when he coached his daughter in basketball and softball to more recently enjoying time with his grandkids and great-grandchildren. He was known to always have an opinion but everybody liked to be around him as he was often the life of the party.
James is survived by his wife of 64 years, Clara "Nelle" Filbeck Riley; one daughter, Teresa (Steve) Champion of Smithland; one sister, Glinda (Dan) Torvik of Collierville, Tennessee; two brothers, Bobby (Rosemary) Riley and Robert "Cotton" (Judy) Riley, both of Benton; three grandchildren, Beth (Jason) Pearson of Wingo, Brandon Beasley of Pilot Oak, Brooke (Tyler) Lykins of Mayfield; and eight great-grandchildren, Tyler Lawson, Jamison Lawson, Dalton Beasley, Ava Beasley, Matthew Pearson, Wesley Pearson, Clara Pearson, Riley Lykins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the Life Celebration Center of Filbeck-Cann, 1003 Poplar Street, Benton, Kentucky 42025.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Life Celebration Center of Filbeck-Cann, 1003 Poplar Street, Benton, Kentucky 42025 with Rev. Danny Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow in Benton Cemetery.
