Harold D. Powell, 89, of Calvert City, Kentucky passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Marshall County Hospital.
Harold was born in Benton, Kentucky on July 1, 1934 to the late Buford Powell and Bessie Mullinax Powel. Harold spent nearly forty years working in the forestry division at the Kentucky Dam Tree Nursery before retiring. He was known as a hard worker with an incredible work ethic and even during the years that he was working for the state he still always managed to find the time to devote to taking care of his farm. Over the years he grew many crops including tobacco, raised hogs, and even got involved in the cattle business. Long after his retirement and well into his eighties you could still find Harold out tending to his farm any chance he could.
Whenever he wasn’t working he enjoyed hunting squirrels and deer, and going fishing with his family. He also loved to travel with his family, especially to Florida so he could enjoy all of the fresh seafood it had to offer. Harold also enjoyed hosting cookouts where he could gather with his friends and family and grill for everyone that came.
Harold is survived by three daughters; Janice Powell of Calvert City, Kentucky, Joyce Powell of Cherryville, North Carolina and Nancy Kidd (Terry) of Gilbertsville, Kentucky; two sons, Jimmy Powell and Tom Morgan (Joyce) both of Calvert City; one sister, Sharon Guin of Caledonia, Mississippi; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nobeline Jordan Powell; one son, Joseph Powell; three brothers, Alton Powell, Dorcas Powell, Carroll Powell; and his parents.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner & Orr.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Provine Cemetery in Benton, Kentucky with Tom Morgan officiating.
