Gloria Metzger, 88, of Hardin, Kentucky, passed away on October 5, 2024, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Gloria was born in Alton, Illinois, on May 13, 1936, to the late Rudolph Puetz and Maggie Melton Puetz. She was of the Catholic faith, but after moving to Kentucky, she most recently attended church at Northside Baptist Church in Almo.  Gloria worked as a registered nurse for 42 years, first at Geneva Community Hospital in Geneva, Illinois, where she developed the birthing room and was one of the first nurses to host Lamaze classes. She later worked at Scripps Hospital of Chula Vista, California. Her kind and caring personality blessed the many patients she served. Gloria was always happy about being on the lake; she was a very talented water skier and competed in multiple skiing events. In addition to skiing, she could spend an entire day relaxing on the lake or bird-watching from her porch. She was passionate about fishing, dancing, and singing. Gloria had a great sense of humor and loved to socialize.  She enjoyed shopping, especially the shopping trips with her “girls.”
.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Metzger; daughters, Lori Ambler of Geneva, Illinois, and Linda Baugh and husband Fred of Rexburg, Idaho; one son, Dan Guthrie of Batavia, Illinois;  six grandchildren: Austin (Taylor), Wesley, Timothy (Julia), Cassie, Ali, and Sam; and four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Jackson, Madison and Cohen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph Puetz and Maggie Melton Puetz; brother, Roger “Corky”  Puetz; and sisters, Louise Kerns and Ginny Perkins.
