Anita Sue Baccus Carter, 94, of Benton, Kentucky, formerly of Arlington, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at her home surrounded by her children and “Freddy”, her beloved cat.

Anita Sue was born on January 10, 1930 to the late Charles and Katie Helen Muscovalley Baccus in Mounds City, Illinois. Her formative years were spent in St. Louis, Missouri until moving to Columbus, Kentucky, where she met and married her husband of 42 years, Charles “Jug” Brown Carter. They moved to Arlington, Kentucky, and lived on the Carter family farm where they raised their five children.

She was a faithful member of Arlington Methodist Church and later attended Benton First Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to her family and raising her children. She spent many years helping elementary students learn to love reading. She loved reading, playing piano, listening to music and dancing. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, baking, boating, playing games, biking, and long walks with her cherished Collie, “Lady,” by her side. She loved traveling with her family on beach and mountain vacations. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Janis Wilson of Paducah, Kentucky; Janie (Steve) Hoskins of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; Susie (Steve) Salyers of Clarksville, Tennessee; sons, Greg (Lisa) Carter of Benton, Kentucky; and Michael (Carmen) Carter of Murray, Kentucky. Her children brought her the blessing of nine grandchildren: Lacey (Grant) Lichtenwalter; Claire Collins; Grant (Heather) Hoskins; George (Holly) Carter; Carolyn (Nathan) Maynard; Luke (Karis) Salyers; C.J. (Karla) Carter; John C. Carter; Carter (Megan) Salyers; great-grandchilren: Grifin and Avery Lichtenwalter; Myra and Ava Collins; George, Kate, and Henry Carter; Madelyn, Joanna, and Charlie Carter; Bodie and Cooper Salyers; and Carter Grace and Lily Maynard; and brother, Michael (Mary Anne) Miklas.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; grandparents, Capt. George and Charlotte (“Lottie”) Muscovalley; aunt, Juanita Muscovalley; her dear uncle, John Milton Muscovalley; brother, Freddy Baccus; sister, Ann Miklas Bryant; and little great-granddaughter, Helen Elizabeth Carter.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the Life Celebration Center of Filbeck-Cann, 1003 Poplar Street, Benton, KY 42025.

A brief Ceremony of Remembrance will be held at 1:00 PM at the Life Celebration Center of Filbeck-Cann with graveside services to follow at Arlington Cemetery being held at 3:00 PM.
