Walter Leroy Wood

Mr. Walter Leroy Wood, 81, Calvert City, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 19th, 2022, at his residence.

Born October 14th, 1941, in West Jefferson, Alabama, to  he late James and Lillie (Baker) Wood, Mr. Wood was a retired steel worker with the Inland Steel Company.  He was a member of United Steel Workers Local 1010.   Mr. Wood was a member of Pathway Baptist Church in Calvert City and participated in the AWANA program.   He was also a volunteer with Marcella's Kitchen.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Sharon (Gasperson) Wood; three sons, Christopher Wood, wife Sandra of Crown Point, Indiana, Craig Wood, wife Daniella of Valparaiso, Indiana. and Terry Wood, wife Suzanne of Hobart, Indiana; two daughters Shari Wilson, husband Gene of North Judson, Indiana and Jennifer Lohse, husband Kevin of Calvert City; one brother, James Henry Wood of Paducah, Kentucky; two sisters, Betty McMillin, husband Bill of Calvert City, and Linda Farley of East Chicago, Indiana; 20 grandchidren, and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by one brother, James Owen Wood; and three sisters, Mary Ruth Wood, Gladys Carter, and Dorothy Lawson.  

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 24th, 2022, at Pathway Baptist Church, 229 West Fifth Avenue, Calvert City with Pastor Mike Donald officiating.   Entombment will follow in Calvert City Cemetery Mausoleum.   

Visitation will be at the church from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 24th, 2022.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the AWANA program at Pathway Baptist Church, 229 West Fifth Avenue, Calvert City, Kentucky 42029.
